After 'I Do'

Hello! My name is Heather and I am so happy you stopped by! This blog is a place where I will share love stories of amazing couples who I had the honor of photographing. It is a place where I can express my passion with images where my words fall short. Photography has changed my life drastically and I am so thankful that God has blessed me with this gift. I wish I could say the same thing about my singing voice, but what can you do?!

Welcome!

New to Washington DC, Shauna was filled with anticipation and hope for what her future held in this amazing city.  What she didn’t realize is that soon after moving there, she would meet the man who would change her life forever.  It all started on Saturday, March 24, 2012 when Shauna and some friends were warming their souls at an Irish whiskey & cigar restaurant called Jack Rose.
I think it is important to enter a Side Note here for single ladies:  Whiskey, Cigars, & food = best place EVER to meet an eligible bachelor.  End Side Note.
Not really even looking to meet anyone that night or even any time soon, Shauna couldn’t help but notice the tall, dark, and handsome guy across the bar.  With a little bit of liquid courage running through her veins, she went over to him and not knowing exactly what to do “accidentally” bumped into him.  As he turned to look, he was pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful girl standing next to him.  They immediately started chatting and found themselves lost in conversation for the next few hours.  There was definitely chemistry between them and Nick knew he had to see her again.  He got her number and called her the next day!  POINTS for Nick!  As they told me this story, he said that when you see something that is so wonderful you have to go after it.  He spent the next few weeks pursuing her with their first and second dates just a few days apart.  They have been inseparable ever since.  Two years later he sealed the deal and completely surprised her with a proposal! The Jack Rose holds a very special place in their lives and they sometimes find themselves back at there to relive that night when their lives changed forever.
I cannot tell you how amazing these two are!  They exude positive energy like a bright light and I could not be more honored that I get to photograph their wedding in June.  I absolutely love Shauna’s sister, who I went to Cal Poly with, and cannot wait to meet the rest of the family!  I had so much fun getting to know you both during our session and hope you enjoy this little teaser from our time at Palace of Fine Arts and Baker Beach.

On my drive home from Baker Beach, this view struck me and I HAD to pullover!  A view that never gets old or tired.

When I met Jenn & Aaron for the first time, we totally hit it off and there was something so familiar about Jenn.  We both went to Cal Poly at the same time, and being that we were both in the Greek system our paths had to have crossed at least once at one function (party) or another.  It wasn’t until our engagement session that I knew for sure we had met before!  I am so glad that she & Aaron were referred to me by a mutual friend cuz it would be a shame to not have gotten to know this awesome couple.  They are so much fun!  We started the session in North Beach for some family shots with Aaron’s adorable daughter Madaline.  She had so much fun in front of my camera and she had me smiling the whole time too.  We all headed to the beach at sunset for some wave frolicking and splashing around!  They got soaked…but it’s the beach, and beaches are way more fun when you actually interact with it.  This setting was suiting being that Aaron proposed to Jenn on a beautiful beach in Mexico!  So excited to hang with you guys again soon!

If you know me, you know I have a small obsession with Pumpkin foods.  (As you can see I capitalize ‘Pumpkin’ because it is more than just a food to me.)  Literally anything Pumpkin is a thumbs up in my culinary world.  Katelin was in the sorority with me, but a year or two behind me in school…eeek, cat is out of the bag.  Yes, I was in an all girls club in college and we sang songs together while wearing big letters on our clothes.  I met awesome girls like Katelin and for that I am sooo thankful!  Back to the reason we are here…the story of Katelin and Chris pulls at my heartstrings because of the involvement of Pumpkin carving, flip cup, and dinner.  Katelin was social chair and planned a Pumpkin carving event with the Pike house and of course there was a flip cup tournament because how else would you determine who made dinner and cleaned up the event?  I believe Pumpkin carving actually did take place but that is not an important part of this story.  Anyway, there was a heated flip cup battle where the girls barely lost. (I would just like to point out that I was not on the team nor present at the event and therefore cannot take any responsibility for the loss.)  Chris approached Katelin at the keg while she was filling a pitcher for the next game.  He not only admired her pitcher filling skills but her flip cup skills were not to go unnoticed, and Chris was sure to compliment her on those…he knew the way to her heart!  The rest is history and now they are planning an upcoming wedding in October!  Yah!  So excited to share these photos of my friends!  Pug Life!  Little Gigi got in on some of our E – Sesh action and did a fabulous job!

It is not uncommon that I share a couple’s story of how they met.  Put simply, I am fascinated by them and hopefully you are too 🙂 This story is different from all other stories I have told because am a part this one.  Stephanie and I lived by each other growing up…and by lived by each other, I mean close enough for her dogs to sneak into my backyard and eat our chickens.  We grew up in what is commonly referred to by Stephanie as the ‘Armpit of California’ and the ‘Gateway to the Yosemites.’  An oasis of fun to be exact.  Our friendship took flight in high school when we both made the Varsity Pole Vaulting team.  It wasn’t a pretty site getting over the bar, but we were breaking records left and right, which wasn’t hard considering there were no records to break.  We were pioneers for women pole vaulters everywhere! haha!  not really. Woah…tangent!  Just realized I was about to tell the story of Steph and Heather.  It’s a comedy thriller so I’ll save that for another time.  So anyway, Steph and I both got into Cal Poly and were dorm room mates.  It couldn’t have been more than 8 weeks into our freshman year when we decided we needed to meet more people.  We went to the Water Ski Club camping trip cuz that seemed to be all the rage at the time.  We showed up not having a clue how to camp regardless of our proximity to the Yosemites growing up.  We were sitting at a picnic table when we got approached by two guys.  Yes, guys actually came and talked to us!  Remember, we are fresh out of High School and still giddy with excitement for College life.  The conversation didn’t last long but we chatted long enough to discover that we were all from the ‘No’.  I’m sure one of use probably made a Fresno joke that wasn’t funny.  If sparks weren’t flying at that first moment for Steph and Nick, it definitely was that night when they found themselves chatting at the camp fire.  It was the start of something great which took bloom thanks to none other than AOL Instant Messenger.  Keylolo360 meet Hunter24.  The AOL chime will forever make me think of Stephanie laughing hysterically at the computer screen as it lit up her face at 1am every night in our dorm room.  As you can probably guess, they eventually exchanged phone numbers and began a relationship filled with love and lots of laughter.

It was such a gift for me to be able to take these photos and freeze in time their playful love they have for each other.  Steph is like family to me and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of their wedding in August!  Congrats you two!
