After 'I Do'

Hello! My name is Heather and I am so happy you stopped by! This blog is a place where I will share love stories of amazing couples who I had the honor of photographing. It is a place where I can express my passion with images where my words fall short. Photography has changed my life drastically and I am so thankful that God has blessed me with this gift. I wish I could say the same thing about my singing voice, but what can you do?!

Welcome!

It was butterflies at first sight. Marika met Michael back in 2012 when she flew to Ohio from California to visit family. He was best friends with her Godbrother so he was always around. The first time she met him she knew immediately that he was someone special even though Michael does not recall that first meeting. haha! However, the 2nd day he vividly remembers meeting her because that is when he realized Marika was someone special too. They hung out every day of her trip and when she flew back home, Michael was left wondering if his strong feelings for her were reciprocated. Marika couldn’t stop thinking about him as well and reached out to him via Facebook. She invited him out to California expecting him to say ‘no’, but to her glorious surprise, he accepted her invite and they had a full week of dates together. Saying goodbye would be too hard after the amazing week together so they started dating long distance for the next FOUR years! People…that is a long time! This is such a testament to their love for each other and commitment to hold on to the hope that one day they would live in the same city. When the stars finally aligned, Michael drove out to Cali to be with his Girl. A year later, he planned an extravagant scavenger hunt from Marin to San Francisco with the final clue landing her at the Tulip Gardens by the beach. He was waiting for her on one knee with a gold ring and a very important question to ask. “Will you marry me?”

These two are clearly best friends and share a deep bond. They were a hoot to photograph and hang out with. I let couples choose their own route during engagement sessions. In other words, they can make the session anything they want it to be and these two chose the young, wild, and free route…my personal fave 🙂 . There was lots of twirling, jumping, laughing, splashing, and goofing. Loved every second of it!

From the Couple: Conrad & Taylor met the old fashioned way- through mutual friends in San Francisco.  Naturally, their first interaction involved a costume as they were dressed in ultra-preppy clothing for Taylor’s 26th birthday bar crawl- the MacKinnon Invitational.  Over the next few months, they kept running into each other at various social events- game night, house parties, birthday dinners for friends.  At one such dinner, Taylor & Conrad got to talking about their shared interest in boating, so Taylor invited Conrad to join a group of friends on a house boating trip to Lake Shasta.  When they boarded the vessel, Taylor sought for a co-captain and of course the first person to step up to the position was Conrad.  Over the course of the weekend, fueled  by teamwork managing the boat and a few drinks to provide courage, Taylor and Conrad spent a lot of time talking and getting to know each other  better.  One night, the wind shifted and the friendship started to feel different- this was the start of their new relationship.  Over the past 6 years, Taylor & Conrad have been on many adventures together domestic and abroad, and even survived 2.5 years of long distance in their relationship.  Now the fun continues together in San Francisco!

We started their engagement session at Sutro Baths which is one of my all time favorite places in San Francisco.  The sun was out and Conrad and Taylor brought their laughs, love for each other, and of course libations!  It was all going smoothly until the Nature Cops were called on us.  Oh!  So those ropes blocking off that forested area is there to keep us out?  Got it.  But we need to get just this one shot so….ya. Just another day of shooting with Heather.  China Beach was next on the hit list and to wrap up their beach session, they brought a giant confetti cannon, which is obviously a brilliant idea for any occasion   They were having so much fun together at the beach that when they got drenched by a giant wave, they just laughed it off and let the next one hit them too.  These two are my kind of people!  Admittedly, it was kinda my fault, but they were game for a little risky business, so we are still friends 🙂  Congrats Taylor & Conrad!

Yippeeeee!!!

Screen Shot 2016-01-08 at 3.35.47 PMWhat an amazing year it has been thanks to all my wonderful couples and their families!  I have been welcomed with open arms into your homes, your lives, and your most cherished and personal moments.  I am so grateful for trusting me with these moments, for the friendships I have formed with you all, and the continuing support you give me through your referrals and stellar, blush-worthy reviews!  It is because of You that I have received The Couple’s Choice Award for 2016!  As my girl Ellen D might say, I want to take all that amazing goodness you brought me last year and give it all right back to you for you to stick in your back pocket for a rainy day!  I still haven’t gotten on the show so if someone out there reads this and happens to know Ellen’s gardner or even her dog walker, hook a sister up!

I especially want to thank the wonderful 2nd photographers that helped me this year with their amazing talent, professionalism and creativity…let’s not forget the occasional equipment carrying as my bump grew.  I am thankful for you all more than I can ever express!

On a personal note, 2015 also brought us our very first fur baby…Birdie!  You can follow her on Instagram here @birdie_style.  Can you tell her parents are just slightly obsessed?! She is our little stuffed animal with a heartbeat and a huge blessing to our family! Most importantly, she came to us as an emotional support dog to lift our spirits as trying to conceive a real baby (without fur) turned out to be one of the hardest and most trying times my husband and I have ever faced.  After years and years…and years of trying, praying, crying, remaining hopeful, & more praying we are BEYOND thrilled to meet our baby this February 2016!  As I write this, baby is kicking vigorously and all I can do is smile and thank God!  The miracle of becoming pregnant is something I will never take for granted and I am more than happy to share our journey with others who may be going through similar difficulties.  It is a crazy roller coaster and having a friend to lean on during the ride is so necessary.

With that said, I will be taking February – May off to get to know the little one…and brush up on my newborn photography skills 🙂  My first wedding is May 28th and am booking through November.  It’s gonna be a huge change, but excited to see what 2016 has in store!
