After 'I Do'

Hello! My name is Heather and I am so happy you stopped by! This blog is a place where I will share love stories of amazing couples who I had the honor of photographing. It is a place where I can express my passion with images where my words fall short. Photography has changed my life drastically and I am so thankful that God has blessed me with this gift. I wish I could say the same thing about my singing voice, but what can you do?!

Welcome!

Nestldown was their dream wedding location, but when their ideal wedding date was not available, they booked another venue. Then entered Covid. Their wedding date was pushed back 2 years, but luckily the wonderful concept of Minimonys was born! They decided this was the perfect solution to become husband and wife at a sooner date and still have a few close family and friends present. Nesltdown was the perfect place, and their ideal minimony date WAS available! Everything was falling into place beautifully AND they get to have two weddings with the big one happening next year! Nestldown is like stepping into a fairytale. Hidden amongst redwood groves in the Santa Cruz mountains, it boasts a massive koi pond and a gorgeous ceremony site tucked inside of a sea of redwood trees and lush greenery. Everywhere you look there is something beautiful to admire. It has long been a dream of mine to shoot there!

The day started off with Connie getting into her gorgeous wedding dress! A corset inspired lace bodice with tiny crystals scattered throughout the skirt. They had their first look under a weeping willow tree by the coi pond which was a beautiful moment as I could tell Connie knocked his socks off! My favorite moments however, happened during the ceremony. Just watching her come down the winding steps that meandered through trees and lush gardens was breathtaking. There were so many happy tears throughout the ceremony which made it feel even more intimate. I am so thankful I got to be a part of their wedding and am excited to see them again for the BIGmony!

This was an emotional day from start to finish with so many happy tears. I loved being a part of Ria & Josh’s wedding and capturing the beauty that comes along with such a powerful love. One of my many favorite memories from the day was watching Josh, as his bride walked down the aisle towards him.

Even though he had seen her moments prior for photos, he was overtaken emotionally by this powerful moment. I always tell couples who are debating on whether or not they should do a first look, the same thing. NOTHING takes away from that moment, because in all reality, you are seeing her for the first time in a new light. You are seeing her as your wife and partner for life. I don’t think there was a person in attendance who was not moved by their ceremony. It was such fun capturing a wedding as if it were 2019! There was dancing, games, lots of laughter…and dare I say, hugs!? Congrats Josh and Ria!

Danielle & Matt will always have a special place in my heart! It was my “Coming Back” wedding after a year and a half of not photographing a single wedding due to Covid. They had to postpone their date TWICE! The stress of the unknown they experienced with grace is admirable for sure. But in the end, their day…THE day, couldn’t have gone any better! I could tell from the constant smiles and laughter from Danielle and Matt that they were on cloud 9 being able to finally celebrate their marriage with all their friends and family.

There are some special details I have to mention, like the dress…It took my breath away when I saw it hanging in the bridal suite. Layer upon layer of tulle, each with a different wow factor. Some layers had lace appliques, while others were covered in a subtle gold glitter pattern. I also just love how the lace around the neck looked like a gorgeous piece of jewelry framing her neckline. It was a 9 month collaboration with her designer to make her dress-dreams a reality. Another detail that was a vision come to life, was the orchid and floral chandelier that they said their vows beneath. A total masterpiece by Wine Country Flowers and a dream come true for Danielle. See images below. I am so thankful for getting to be a part of this special day! I hope you enjoy the photos!

Photography by Danielle Reiff for Heather Scharf Photography – Editing by Heather Scharf

I absolutely loved getting to know Steph and Nikhil during their engagement session and hearing all about there plans for their wedding day! I was equally excited to photograph it! Then…Dun, Dun, DUUUUN. enter Covid-19 a year later. Ugh, it turned every plan upside down and inside out all at once. They rolled with the stress of a new date, venue, and sadly, photographer. It was not a decision I took lightly to pass on their wedding to my Associate, Danielle, but I had 2 preemie infants at the time to consider. I knew they were in great hands as Danielle shares the same passion as myself for capturing people’s most important day, but I selfishly didn’t want to miss out on all the fun! However, as I began editing the photos, I noticed I was smiling ear to ear at the pure happiness in each photo. It felt as if I had been there myself and my FOMO slowly began to fade.

From Danielle: It was quite the warm day, but Steph & Nikhil didn’t let that bother them one bit. They had each other and their closest family and friends with them to help make their special day perfect. They were so much fun to photograph and the groomsmen had us laughing the whole time. All of the portraits were a breeze to photograph as each smile was a genuine reflection of the pure joy people were experiencing. It was also touching to see the pride and support that their parent’s felt for their children. The whole day felt laid back in the best way possible…everyone came to have a good time and show their love and support for Steph & Nikhil. Their focus was on each other’s love and the whole day flowed seamlessly. This wedding was a perfect example of why having an intimate wedding can be such a gift in the end.
