After 'I Do'

Hello! My name is Heather and I am so happy you stopped by! This blog is a place where I will share love stories of amazing couples who I had the honor of photographing. It is a place where I can express my passion with images where my words fall short. Photography has changed my life drastically and I am so thankful that God has blessed me with this gift. I wish I could say the same thing about my singing voice, but what can you do?!

Welcome!

Well, it is incredibly hard to imagine that this was my first photo shoot in 13 months due to Covid AND giving birth to twin baby boys! With most of my 2019 weddings getting pushed to 2020 everything seemed very uncertain. But, boy did it feel good to be back out there doing what brings me so much joy! Don’t get me wrong, I LOOOOVE being a mom and caring for our kids, but holy cow…a girl needs her ME time! It’s been a loooong 9 months of surviving 4 kids, 4 and under, during a pandemic, with zero personal time or outlets. I swear, I went through all the phases of grief with photography, wondering if I’d ever shoot another wedding. I needed this engagement session like like a flower needs water. A part of myself that I had put on the back-burner, came back to life when I met this amazing couple for their engagement session!

Caroline and Corbett arrived to Baker Beach looking like they had just stepped out of a catalog. Such a beautiful couple! They both had such warm smiles and I knew instantly that kindness and love were weaved into the fabric of who they are. Making them even more amazing, was that they were game for anything I threw their way even if it meant getting soaked in the ocean…which was purely nature’s fault…and kinda mine ūüėČ I could tell they were having so much fun together and really living in the moment. I never would have guessed that this care-free couple had a huge amount of stress on their plate, wondering if their upcoming March wedding would take place. It warmed my heart to receive their email filled with gratitude explaining that the photo shoot had brought them so much joy and gave them a chance to celebrate their engagement in a way they had not been able to do yet. I loved every second of it too, and cannot wait to see you guys again at your wedding!

I absolutely loved getting to know Steph and Nikhil during their engagement session and hearing all about there plans for their wedding day! I was equally excited to photograph it! Then…Dun, Dun, DUUUUN. enter Covid-19 a year later. Ugh, it turned every plan upside down and inside out all at once. They rolled with the stress of a new date, venue, and sadly, photographer. It was not a decision I took lightly to pass on their wedding to my Associate, Danielle, but I had 2 preemie infants at the time to consider. I knew they were in great hands as Danielle shares the same passion as myself for capturing people’s most important day, but I selfishly didn’t want to miss out on all the fun! However, as I began editing the photos, I noticed I was smiling ear to ear at the pure happiness in each photo. It felt as if I had been there myself and my FOMO slowly began to fade.

From Danielle: It was quite the warm day, but Steph & Nikhil didn‚Äôt let that bother them one bit. They had each other and their closest family and friends with them to help make their special day perfect. They were so much fun to photograph and the groomsmen had us laughing the whole time. All of the portraits were a breeze to photograph as each smile was a genuine reflection of the pure joy people were experiencing. It was also touching to see the pride and support that their parent’s felt for their children. The whole day felt laid back in the best way possible…everyone came to have a good time and show their love and support for Steph & Nikhil. Their focus was on each other’s love and the whole day flowed seamlessly. This wedding was a perfect example of why having an intimate wedding can be such a gift in the end.

Megan & Mark, like so many other engaged couples this year, were faced with the painfully tough decision on how to proceed with their wedding due to the Corona Virus pandemic. Timing didn’t allow for postponing to 2021, so it was now or…now! And so they moved forward with their wedding but with only an officiant, photographer and planner. Despite all the changes and stress Megan and Mark endured, they were so incredibly happy to get married in a little slice of wine country paradise surrounded by redwoods and rolling hills of vineyards. Though they missed their friends and family, they were grateful their closest loved ones were able to join via Zoom. Megan and Mark described it as an emotional day that was intimate and lovely…a day that they will never forget.

They first met each other about six years ago. Katey’s friend Barbara had been trying to set Katey up with Brian for several weeks as she had a hunch they would be a perfect match. Eventually Brian called Katey and asked her to have lunch down at the Ferry Building. They hit it off and the rest is history!

While it was grey skies and frigid temperatures on the day of Katey and Brian’s engagement¬†session, they were all smiles as they walked up to our location, and their connection was immediately apparent. We hopped around to a few different locations including The Legion of Honor and Sutro Baths and navigated around the weekend tourists. I genuinely enjoyed the experience of getting to know¬†who¬†they are as a couple, and¬†how¬†they love one another, and cannot wait to capture their wedding day in April!
