In the spring of 2005, on a long bus ride during their high school’s annual music tour, Ryan interrupted Hayley while she was reading. They ended up chatting for hours. And despite the fact that Hayley talked a lot about the Oakland A’s (a team Ryan did not like) and books (that Ryan had not read) and Ryan talked a lot about the SF Giants (a team Hayley did not like) and the cool animals at his house (which Hayley was pretty violently allergic to), they got along. They were goofy, very talkative, and liked to hear each other’s stories. (They also had both watched every second of the bonus features on The Lord of the Rings DVDs, so that helped.) They’re getting married in April, but they’ve been talking about spending the rest of their lives together since the very beginning. They just didn’t tell anyone because, perhaps appropriately, they would’ve been told that they were acting young and foolish.
These two are amazing and the type of people I want to hang out with ALL the time! It was literally pouring down rain so hard that my gear was soaked, umbrella turned inside out from the wind, and Hayley and Ryan were dripping wet! I asked them before we started if they wanted to go ahead with the shoot. 9 out of 10 couples would have definitely cancelled by now. I was pleasantly surprised when they said, “Let’s do it!” I kid you not, literally 5 minutes after we started shooting on the beach, (did I mention it was so grey and foggy out that there was no sign of the Golden Gate Bridge?) the sun came out and THE most magical thing happened! A piercing, sparkling, Skittle inspired rainbow appeared across the sky! It came up out of the bay and stretched all the way across the city! Then we saw a unicorn fly by! Well, it was either a unicorn or their adorable Golden Retriever puppy, Ozzie, running by. Either way we were all shocked by its glory. Things just kept getting better from there! We had the beach to ourselves and Hayley and Ryan were down to take their shoes off and splash around. Plus it was their puppy’s first time at the beach and he was in doggy heaven! It was so cute to see him frolic around the water with his big floppy paws. These two are soooo easy to photograph as they exude so much love and joy when they are holding each other. If this is what young and foolish looks like, then sign me up! Congrats Hayley & Ryan!
