After 'I Do'

Hello! My name is Heather and I am so happy you stopped by! This blog is a place where I will share love stories of amazing couples who I had the honor of photographing. It is a place where I can express my passion with images where my words fall short. Photography has changed my life drastically and I am so thankful that God has blessed me with this gift. I wish I could say the same thing about my singing voice, but what can you do?!

Welcome!

Well, it is incredibly hard to imagine that this was my first photo shoot in 13 months due to Covid AND giving birth to twin baby boys! With most of my 2019 weddings getting pushed to 2020 everything seemed very uncertain. But, boy did it feel good to be back out there doing what brings me so much joy! Don’t get me wrong, I LOOOOVE being a mom and caring for our kids, but holy cow…a girl needs her ME time! It’s been a loooong 9 months of surviving 4 kids, 4 and under, during a pandemic, with zero personal time or outlets. I swear, I went through all the phases of grief with photography, wondering if I’d ever shoot another wedding. I needed this engagement session like like a flower needs water. A part of myself that I had put on the back-burner, came back to life when I met this amazing couple for their engagement session!

Caroline and Corbett arrived to Baker Beach looking like they had just stepped out of a catalog. Such a beautiful couple! They both had such warm smiles and I knew instantly that kindness and love were weaved into the fabric of who they are. Making them even more amazing, was that they were game for anything I threw their way even if it meant getting soaked in the ocean…which was purely nature’s fault…and kinda mine 😉 I could tell they were having so much fun together and really living in the moment. I never would have guessed that this care-free couple had a huge amount of stress on their plate, wondering if their upcoming March wedding would take place. It warmed my heart to receive their email filled with gratitude explaining that the photo shoot had brought them so much joy and gave them a chance to celebrate their engagement in a way they had not been able to do yet. I loved every second of it too, and cannot wait to see you guys again at your wedding!

We finally had a day of no rain and I couldn’t be more thrilled to spend it shooting at the beautiful beach by the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay!  Ellie & Tony are a perfect match!  They both love the beach especially the one in Carmel where they got engaged! Ellie braved the cold in her dress and I am so glad she did cuz she looked amazing in it!  There may have been lots of running on the beach just to stay warm 😉  They are such a sweet couple and I am so excited for their wedding this spring!

It all began at the University of Michigan in their final year of college at an Indian cultural event.  Their was an immediate connection made. For the next 6 months they conveniently “bumped” into each other until Deepak had the courage to tell Ravali that he was into her.  Their first date kicked off with homeade pesto pasta followed by late night gelato…a treat they still enjoy eating together now.  Sadly, Deepak moved to Seattle, Wa after graduation and thus started ‘relationship torture’ also known as long distance dating…I was in that club too so I know how “fun” it can be!  A little east coast – west coast distance didn’t stop them from continuing to grow closer as they spent many nights on Skype or on the phone.  3 years later, Ravali moved to San Francisco and lessened the distance gap.  As fate would have it, 6 months later they would be in the same city again when Deepak followed her to the City by the Bay!  Yah for no more distance!  Just one short year later he proposed at their favorite winery, Artesa, and surprised her by inviting friends and family to help them celebrate!  Their story sums up the whole meaning of ‘Love is Patient’ and I can see it in the way they are together that they will never take each other’s presence for granted.  I am so happy for these two wonderful people and wish them the most amazing wedding celebrating in Michigan this year!

This engagement session is on A Paper Proposal right now!  So exciting! Click HERE!

Straight Out of Campbell – One sunny afternoon, in 2013, at a street festival in Downtown Campbell, Bill and Erin first crossed paths.  Bill was rolling down the street with his one man crew, when off in the distance he spotted a familiar female crew of two walking in slow motion toward them. It was as if this middle of the sidewalk standoff had been planned all along.  He knew one of them, but it was the other new face that struck him like a bullet from Cupid’s gun.  Am I taking the ‘Straight Out of Compton’ theme too far? No? Awesome.  Harmless, yet lasting introductions were made and everyone carried on in the direction they were heading.  Bill knew he had to see Erin again and as luck would have it, he ran into Erin’s friend later that day and told her, “to put in a good word for me.”  The ‘word’ was received well as Erin proclaimed, “He is my type!”  It gets better!  They bumped into each other again in downtown Campbell while Erin was celebrating her friend’s Bachelorette party.  They talked briefly in a bar, but before Bill could get Erin’s number, she fled the scene as she had a half marathon race the next morning. ‘Straight Out of Cinderella?’  It was not until the following weekend, on an epic Sunday Funday bike ride with other mutual friends that Bill and Erin finally had the chance to get to know each other. They biked and talked for hours that day and that started it all…….they have been rolling together ever since!!!
Rewind 9 years earlier:  Erin had purchased a bike from Bill’s bike shop and the receipt they found clearly stated that Bill had been the one to sell it to her!  Coincidence?  I think NOT!
Erin and Bill share a passion for the beach and biking.  When they combine the two into one day, explosions of happiness errupt.  And so, it was on such a day, bikes parked along a beachside bench, a soft ocean breeze in Erin’s hair,  that Bill got down on one knee and proposed.  She said YES, and I kid you not, like the final scene of a romantic comedy, they saw a shooting star.
I’ll leave you with that…
AND this amazing engagement session in Capitola!  What an awesome couple!  Seriously.  I want to be them.
