After 'I Do'

Hello! My name is Heather and I am so happy you stopped by! This blog is a place where I will share love stories of amazing couples who I had the honor of photographing. It is a place where I can express my passion with images where my words fall short. Photography has changed my life drastically and I am so thankful that God has blessed me with this gift. I wish I could say the same thing about my singing voice, but what can you do?!

Welcome!

Well, it is incredibly hard to imagine that this was my first photo shoot in 13 months due to Covid AND giving birth to twin baby boys! With most of my 2019 weddings getting pushed to 2020 everything seemed very uncertain. But, boy did it feel good to be back out there doing what brings me so much joy! Don’t get me wrong, I LOOOOVE being a mom and caring for our kids, but holy cow…a girl needs her ME time! It’s been a loooong 9 months of surviving 4 kids, 4 and under, during a pandemic, with zero personal time or outlets. I swear, I went through all the phases of grief with photography, wondering if I’d ever shoot another wedding. I needed this engagement session like like a flower needs water. A part of myself that I had put on the back-burner, came back to life when I met this amazing couple for their engagement session!

Caroline and Corbett arrived to Baker Beach looking like they had just stepped out of a catalog. Such a beautiful couple! They both had such warm smiles and I knew instantly that kindness and love were weaved into the fabric of who they are. Making them even more amazing, was that they were game for anything I threw their way even if it meant getting soaked in the ocean…which was purely nature’s fault…and kinda mine 😉 I could tell they were having so much fun together and really living in the moment. I never would have guessed that this care-free couple had a huge amount of stress on their plate, wondering if their upcoming March wedding would take place. It warmed my heart to receive their email filled with gratitude explaining that the photo shoot had brought them so much joy and gave them a chance to celebrate their engagement in a way they had not been able to do yet. I loved every second of it too, and cannot wait to see you guys again at your wedding!

It all started in law school at the University of Michigan.  Nick was good friends with two of Stephanie’s roommates and despite seeing him from time to time, it wasn’t until the spring of their 2nd year that a real connection was made.  Nick had taken his seat in a jurisdiction class and as people spilled in, Stephanie noticed a familiar (and super cute) face amongst the crowd and snagged the seat next to him. Stephanie quickly developed a crush and little did she know Nick was developing feelings too.  Among other things, he found her intelligence very attractive and thought it wouldn’t be so bad having this girl in the seat next to him for the rest of his life.  After a few weeks of (somewhat shamelessly) pursuing him, they shared their first kiss at a law review party, and the rest is history!  By the time they started dating, each had lined up jobs in different cities for after graduation — New York and San Francisco.  But they were committed to making it work 3,000 miles apart.  It wasn’t until last summer that Stephanie bought that one way ticket to San Francisco to bridge the gap in their distance so they could finally be in the same time zone.  After she took the California Bar Exam, Nick surprised her with a trip to Napa and took her to the same winery where she first told him, “I love you”.  This time he would one UP her and get on one knee to propose!

We had such a great time shooting in their neighborhood of Nob Hill and then going to one of Stephanie’s all time favorite spots, The Ferry Building!  Its waterfront beauty, cuisine, and energy are some of the reasons why Nick was able to convince her to move to the Bay Area…well, there was another big reason named Nick 😉  As the sun set, we made our way to the most romantic pier in SF and watched in awe as one of the most gorgeous days of the year transformed into one of the most magical sparkling nights the city has ever seen.

He woke up that morning wearing his favorite tie-dye shirt and jeans with couch hair to complete the look.  Jeff had buddies in San Francisco that he often hung out with and couch surfing was something he was all too familiar with.  It is never wise to pass up a free couch to crash on in San Francisco (granted you know the owners of said couch).  As he made his way to his car that morning, he spotted Her.  The Her.  It hit him like a ton of bricks.  Something to this day he cannot quite explain. He knew right away this girl would change his life forever. Kelly looked amazing in a business casual pencil skirt, no doubt on her way to work.  They could not have looked more different.  For Kelly, he was a tie-dye wearing couch surfer who needed to get his life together, but cute nonetheless…and somewhat interesting.  They said hello and made small talk for a few minutes and then went their separate ways.  Jeff knew he had to see her again and being that they had mutual friends, immediately started planning how he could causally “bump” into her again.  The next encounter was at a GoPro launch party at Great America.  They reconnected and started dancing to the live music. After an unforgettable time together they parted ways again. Keys.  She had his keys!  She was holding on to them in her purse!  He would have to see her again.  A classic move that works every time.  He returned to her place the next day to pick them up and they have been madly in love ever since.

I should have started by saying, “Grab some wine and popcorn cuz this story is better than anything you will find on Netflix tonight!”

These two are incredible!  Hearts of gold and just a blast to be around!  I can see it in the way they look at each other and hear it in the way they talk to each other.  I can tell they put each other’s needs first.  We had a blast together, along with their dog Bailey, walking the streets of North Beach where Kelly lived when they first met.  We then went to Baker Beach for sunset.  Such an incredible day amongst forecasted rain.  Here is a sample of our day together. Congrats Kelly & Jeff!

OhMyGoodness!  I LOVED everything about this engagement session with Nicole & Kyle!  When I saw her walk up with her 4″ Mediterranean Blue – sueded, crystal-studded heels and backless white dress, I knew there was fun to be had during this shoot!  It was an overcast foggy day which made these heels even more amazing since they really POPPED against the grey backdrop.  I have done a lot of shoots at Sutro Baths this year and each time it offers something entirely novel.  I think I love the fog just as much as the sunsets here…wait, let me think about it…YES, I definitely do!  It really gives the ruins a mystical feel and more importantly it chases away all the tourists giving us our own private slice of paradise (minus the 30 degree weather).  This location holds a very special place in their hearts as this is where Kyle got down on one knee and asked Nicole to spend forever with him.  He took her to a secluded spot amongst the tall trees at the Sutro Baths Trail which is such a romantic nook in one of San Francisco’s most picturesque and historical locations.  Of course we had to visit where it all happened so they could show me exactly how the proposal all unfolded.  I am so excited to be a part of their wedding in a couple months!  Congrats you two!

The spot.
