After 'I Do'

Hello! My name is Heather and I am so happy you stopped by! This blog is a place where I will share love stories of amazing couples who I had the honor of photographing. It is a place where I can express my passion with images where my words fall short. Photography has changed my life drastically and I am so thankful that God has blessed me with this gift. I wish I could say the same thing about my singing voice, but what can you do?!

Welcome!

Straight Out of Campbell – One sunny afternoon, in 2013, at a street festival in Downtown Campbell, Bill and Erin first crossed paths.  Bill was rolling down the street with his one man crew, when off in the distance he spotted a familiar female crew of two walking in slow motion toward them. It was as if this middle of the sidewalk standoff had been planned all along.  He knew one of them, but it was the other new face that struck him like a bullet from Cupid’s gun.  Am I taking the ‘Straight Out of Compton’ theme too far? No? Awesome.  Harmless, yet lasting introductions were made and everyone carried on in the direction they were heading.  Bill knew he had to see Erin again and as luck would have it, he ran into Erin’s friend later that day and told her, “to put in a good word for me.”  The ‘word’ was received well as Erin proclaimed, “He is my type!”  It gets better!  They bumped into each other again in downtown Campbell while Erin was celebrating her friend’s Bachelorette party.  They talked briefly in a bar, but before Bill could get Erin’s number, she fled the scene as she had a half marathon race the next morning. ‘Straight Out of Cinderella?’  It was not until the following weekend, on an epic Sunday Funday bike ride with other mutual friends that Bill and Erin finally had the chance to get to know each other. They biked and talked for hours that day and that started it all…….they have been rolling together ever since!!!
Rewind 9 years earlier:  Erin had purchased a bike from Bill’s bike shop and the receipt they found clearly stated that Bill had been the one to sell it to her!  Coincidence?  I think NOT!
Erin and Bill share a passion for the beach and biking.  When they combine the two into one day, explosions of happiness errupt.  And so, it was on such a day, bikes parked along a beachside bench, a soft ocean breeze in Erin’s hair,  that Bill got down on one knee and proposed.  She said YES, and I kid you not, like the final scene of a romantic comedy, they saw a shooting star.
I’ll leave you with that…
AND this amazing engagement session in Capitola!  What an awesome couple!  Seriously.  I want to be them.

The Bright Colors of “She Said Yes!” ~ Melissa & Travis ~ {Capitola Beach}

Melissa’s best friend from college and Travis’s best friend were both thinking the same thing…”Mel and Travis would be PERFECT for each other!”  Making that meet up between the two wouldn’t take much “setting up” as they would both be attending the same Memorial Day BBQ.  It had to have been love at first sight for Travis cuz when Melissa arrived the clouds parted and I’m sure angels were singing (in Travis’s head).  Not only was her beauty amplified by her slow motion walk toward him, but she was also carrying into the party his favorite beer!  The Dream girl alarm was sounding and my new ad for a beer commercial is also a true story!  Later in the evening Melissa and Travis paired up for a beer pong game and we all know that being on the same team, trash talking against the other team, all while drinking beer in a competitive atmosphere are the key ingredients for the start of something magical…The game didn’t have a magical ending as they lost, but in the enchanting game of love, Melissa and Travis are forever winners as they have found true companionship in each other.

Capitola Beach, Ca is a very special place for Melissa and Travis.  This is where one of the most significant stories Melissa and Travis will ever tell took place.  This is where he got down on one knee, spilled his heart out to her, proposed…and…She said “YES!”  Here is a sneak peak into their engagement session and I hope that these pictures do justice what this colorful beach town means to you.

It was so much fun hanging out with Mel and Trav (I can call them that, cuz we are that tight now 🙂 and capturing their love!  Enjoy!

Engagement Sesh Starring Janay, Rory, and Patrick the Starfish! {Capitola Beach, Ca}

undefined There is no way for me to write a simple paragraph on this couple, but I hope the pictures can finish the thoughts that I cannot formulate.  I absolutely LOVE them!  Janay is one of my very good friends from college, and when I reminisce about the “good ol’ days” and the fun times with Janay, a huge smile comes across my face and I just laugh.  Her bachelorette party is tomorrow and I already know more memories will collect in my bank for me to reach for when I need a good laugh.  She has such an amazing outlook on life and is definitely someone that everyone wants to be around.  So when I met Rory for the first time at the pre party for the Journey concert, I was not shocked to see that Janay had found someone just as goofy and full of life as herself.  I went into this session very excited and not as nervous as I usually am because I knew that no matter what happened we would laugh a lot and just go with the flow.  That we did!

I really wanted to call this session, “Rory’s First Time at the Beach”  He was like a little kid running from the waves for the first time!  I just loved it!  There were times I had to take a moment to catch my breath cuz I was laughing so hard!

I tell all my couples to bring outfits to change into as well as any props that they want to incorporate into the shoot.  I was expecting Janay and Rory to show up in their famous gorilla suits, but instead they brought something a little more unexpected!  If you don’t already know this about me, I live for reactions!  I just love it when someone is blown away by something I have said, a story I have told, or simply speechless shock!  This time Janay got a reaction from me when she told me they brought a star fish!  This caught me so off guard that all I could do was laugh to get the dumb founded look off my face.  This is just one reason why I LOVE these guys!  The setting of Capitola Beach was the perfect backdrop filled with bright colors and interesting architecture with a  romantic vibe.  I just loved this shoot!  It was playful and light hearted…and of course I just loved Rory’s interpretation of cues that I was giving them for certain shots!  It made for some good laughs and fun pictures!  Enjoy this splash of color and sneak peak into the lives of Janay and Rory, my dear friends 🙂

P.S. I just loved the little old lady who walked right through our shoot several times!  I just had to put a couple of them in here!  Also check out the “Out Takes” at the end of this shoot 🙂
