After 'I Do'

Hello! My name is Heather and I am so happy you stopped by! This blog is a place where I will share love stories of amazing couples who I had the honor of photographing. It is a place where I can express my passion with images where my words fall short. Photography has changed my life drastically and I am so thankful that God has blessed me with this gift. I wish I could say the same thing about my singing voice, but what can you do?!

Welcome!

It was a true gift to photograph this beautiful wedding.  Visually beautiful for sure, but it was the ceremony filled with happy tears, heartfelt vows, and the warmth of family that surrounded Sam and Davey that was the most beautiful to me. I could actually feel the intense bond that these two share for each other through my camera.  As I zoomed in on their faces throughout their first look, vows, and the speeches all I could do was tear up…over and over and over again.  It’s been like 2 years since Parenthood’s season finale and thus 2 years since I’ve had a good happy cry so for that I owe them big time!  When I try and think of a word to best describe Sam & Davey the first one that comes to mind is pure.  They are both so pure of heart wrapped up in loving warmth with a big bow on top!  An old fashioned kind of love as Davey’s sister so perfectly noted.  Sam & Davey first met as room mates in Steamboat Springs, Co and have been inseparable ever since.  There were 3 house rules when he moved into her place, the 3rd being the most important: ‘Do not try and date me.’  That rule lasted maybe a couple of weeks 😉

They were married at the most beautiful, picturesque place I had seen only once before…in my dreams! It’s like a bad pick up line, but it feels right so let’s go with it.  Flying Diamond Ranch, a visual masterpiece with sweeping views of mountains and aspen trees was the perfect setting for their Colorado wedding.  Not only did many of their closest family and friends help celebrate their union, but Mother Nature came too.  During the ceremony she rolled in the most beautiful clouds providing a dramatic backdrop and picture perfect lighting.  During cocktail hour and thus “sunset photos” She brought the heat with an intense downpour of sideways rain, wind and lightning.  I literally thought I was going to die in that little golf cart clutching tightly to my metal light stands and cameras as lightning struck all around us.  We got SOAKED to the core and sped back to the reception in our golf carts barely dodging lightning bolts.  That is how it played out in my head…yes, kinda like Mario Cart on the hardest level 😉 Sam and Davey were greeted with cheers as they ran back to the reception tent for shelter.  No more photos I promised…until alas, Mother Nature apologized with a beautiful rainbow and a perfect blue sky that looked nothing short of a painting.  We HAVE to do more photos I insisted!  As Jett, my sister in law would say, “Mother Nature is really putting on a show for us today!”

Sam & Davey added a victorian feel to their wedding with pearls dripping from the center pieces, lace accents, and antique china.  When I asked if there was a story behind the china, Sam said her mom and sisters had been collecting it at various antique shops during the course of their engagement.  Each and every guest had a unique place setting!  Brilliant and nothing short of perfection!  The centerpieces were absolutely gorgeous as they used china tea kettles as vases filled with cream and pink roses.  Adding to the beauty of the day was Sam in her backless lace dress.  It is no wonder Davey was brought to tears at their first look.  I absolutely love these two and cannot wait to see them again!  Here is a snapshot of the most amazing day!

Where do I even start with how awesome these two are!  Well, I guess I could start with the fact that they are my family!  Big time score for me 🙂  Sam & Davey live in one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been too!  It is full of so much natural beauty and provides enough outdoor recreation for even the most active of people year round!  In fact, I believe more Olympic skiers come out of this town than anywhere else in America.  I was completely honored and beyond excited when they asked me to do these photos for them.  Steamboat Springs, Co is also a place where some of my most favorite people and family live, including my two adorable nephews who I love soooooo much!  In fact, this shoot was perfect timing for us to visit our brand new nephew of just 3 weeks old!  It was an awesome trip filled with great family memories, gorgeous hikes, and this beyond adorable couple.  Sam & Davey are complete naturals in front of the camera, which is most likely due to their love for each other bursting at the seams of each image…and their ridiculous good looks of course 🙂 They are beautiful inside and out and I am so lucky to call them family!  I cannot wait for their wedding in Da Boat next year!

If there is one word that could describe me right now at this very phase in my life, it would be EMOTIONAL!  I found myself alone in front of the TV last week crying at the Cheerios commercial…you know the one I’m talking about…The kids cut out the Word “Cheer” from the word Cheerios on the cereal box and write a message on the back to send to a soldier’s family for the holidays.  It gets me every time!  Biggest Loser, Extreme Home Makeover, Parenthood, Minute to Win It, Saturday morning cartoons…Please pass the tissue box!  So you can imagine what brand new babies that are not just on the TV screen do to me 🙂  Wyatt was born 11-4-11 and had LOVE rushing to see him from everywhere.  Papa Bob and Grammy packed the car and hit the road all the way from Washington as soon as word reached them that their daughter was going into labor.  They made it there in 22 hours and were able to hold their first grandson when he was still in the hospital.  Matt and I booked a flight and made our way there for Thanksgiving as well…and I have to say, we all had a lot to be thankful for this year.  All the Scharf’s were together for the first time on Thanksgiving in years.  It was awesome, and it was amazing to look into the eyes of a little baby still trying to figure out what this world is all about outside the dark cozy home he had for 9 months.  He is absolutely perfect!  Matt and I are so honored to be his God Parents and to be there for him as he grows into a young boy, teenager, and man.  We left Steamboat Springs in love with that little guy…and the tears came.  Here is a snippet of our week in Steamboat, and Wyatt’s first weeks of life!

Oh and the adorable faces of Cooper and Heidi!  We stayed a night with my friends in Denver and these are their babies!  I think these Bernese Mountain dogs have modeled before…or maybe this is their big break! 😉

Just when I thought that Colorado in the Summer was the most amazing place on Earth, I saw it in the Winter…now I just don’t know which is more amazing!
