It was a true gift to photograph this beautiful wedding.  Visually beautiful for sure, but it was the ceremony filled with happy tears, heartfelt vows, and the warmth of family that surrounded Sam and Davey that was the most beautiful to me. I could actually feel the intense bond that these two share for each other through my camera.  As I zoomed in on their faces throughout their first look, vows, and the speeches all I could do was tear up…over and over and over again.  It’s been like 2 years since Parenthood’s season finale and thus 2 years since I’ve had a good happy cry so for that I owe them big time!  When I try and think of a word to best describe Sam & Davey the first one that comes to mind is pure.  They are both so pure of heart wrapped up in loving warmth with a big bow on top!  An old fashioned kind of love as Davey’s sister so perfectly noted.  Sam & Davey first met as room mates in Steamboat Springs, Co and have been inseparable ever since.  There were 3 house rules when he moved into her place, the 3rd being the most important: ‘Do not try and date me.’  That rule lasted maybe a couple of weeks 😉

They were married at the most beautiful, picturesque place I had seen only once before…in my dreams! It’s like a bad pick up line, but it feels right so let’s go with it.  Flying Diamond Ranch, a visual masterpiece with sweeping views of mountains and aspen trees was the perfect setting for their Colorado wedding.  Not only did many of their closest family and friends help celebrate their union, but Mother Nature came too.  During the ceremony she rolled in the most beautiful clouds providing a dramatic backdrop and picture perfect lighting.  During cocktail hour and thus “sunset photos” She brought the heat with an intense downpour of sideways rain, wind and lightning.  I literally thought I was going to die in that little golf cart clutching tightly to my metal light stands and cameras as lightning struck all around us.  We got SOAKED to the core and sped back to the reception in our golf carts barely dodging lightning bolts.  That is how it played out in my head…yes, kinda like Mario Cart on the hardest level 😉 Sam and Davey were greeted with cheers as they ran back to the reception tent for shelter.  No more photos I promised…until alas, Mother Nature apologized with a beautiful rainbow and a perfect blue sky that looked nothing short of a painting.  We HAVE to do more photos I insisted!  As Jett, my sister in law would say, “Mother Nature is really putting on a show for us today!”

Sam & Davey added a victorian feel to their wedding with pearls dripping from the center pieces, lace accents, and antique china.  When I asked if there was a story behind the china, Sam said her mom and sisters had been collecting it at various antique shops during the course of their engagement.  Each and every guest had a unique place setting!  Brilliant and nothing short of perfection!  The centerpieces were absolutely gorgeous as they used china tea kettles as vases filled with cream and pink roses.  Adding to the beauty of the day was Sam in her backless lace dress.  It is no wonder Davey was brought to tears at their first look.  I absolutely love these two and cannot wait to see them again!  Here is a snapshot of the most amazing day!
